Kimathi University College of Technology (KUCT) came into being as a constituent University College of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in August 2007. It is the successor of Kimathi Institute of Technology, which was founded in 1978 as a community initiative. KUCT is situated in a major coffee growing zone in Central Kenya. It is 4 km from Nyeri Town along the Mweiga-Nyahururu road. The driving force behind establishment of the institute, now KUCT, was to train manpower for the agricultural and business activities to the community and beyond.
KUCT has positioned itself to play a major role in the coffee industry by offering formal training courses in Coffee Technology-Quality Management and Cupping. Currently, there is no other institution in Kenya and the East African region providing this kind of specialized training.
