Prof. R. Eng. P.N. Kioni - Vice Chancellor
Prof. P. Ndirangu Kioni is serving as the first Vice-Chancellor of Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) following its upgrading to a fully fledged university by award of Charter on 14th December 2012. He was at Cambridge University, England, where he got a Doctor of Philosophy degree, in 1994. He took his undergraduate studies at the University of Nairobi (UoN), where he obtained First Class honours, Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1988, along the way winning the General Motors Prize for the top student, a position he had maintained every year throughout the programme. After leaving UoN, he worked as a Plant Engineer at Unilever Kenya Limited, formerly East Africa Industries Ltd, where he obtained his first experiential training in engineering before proceeding for further studies in 1990. He attended Alliance High School for his A-level education where he took Math, Further Math, Chemistry and Physics as principal subjects and got nationally outstanding results which earned him the famed Gandhi Nidhi Smarak Award which, in the year, was given to the five best students in the country.
Prof. M.K. Gachari - Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration & Finance)
Prof. Gachari is currently serving as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration & Finance). He attended the University of Oxford, UK, where he graduated with MSc and PhD degrees. He previously attended the University of Nairobi graduating with a BSc in Surveying & Photogrammetry. Prof. Gachari is a registered and Licensed Surveyor and a Full member of the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya.
Prof. Gachari previously served as Acting Principal, Kimathi University College of Technology for one year (w.e.f January 2008) during the initial one year of its functional operation as a University College. He has also served as Deputy principal (Administration & Finance), Kimathi University College of Technology, Acting Dean, Faculty of Engineering (JKUAT), Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering (JKUAT), and Founding Chairman, department of Geomatic Engineering and Geospatial Information Systems (JKUAT). Prof. Gachari is also holder of an MBA in Strategic Management.
Prof. Gerald Muthakia - Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs)
Prof. Muthakia went to Alliance High School and Kirangari High School for his secondary education. He later pursued his University Education at Kenyatta University College (B.Ed. Science) and University of Nairobi MSc. Chemistry proceeding to Exeter University (U.K) for Ph. D.
He taught briefly at Ngandu Girls High School and Thika High School before joining Kenyatta University in 1987 as a Tutorial Fellow rising to position of Associate Professor in 2008. Prof. Muthakia has held various positions including Chairman of the Chemistry Department and Dean, School of Pure and Applied Sciences at Kenyatta University before joining Kimathi University college of Technology as the Deputy Principal (Academic Affairs). Prof. (Eng.) Paul M. Wambua - Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology Management and Community Linkages)
Prof. (Eng.) Paul M. Wambua is a Professor of Materials Engineering. He delivered his Inaugural lecture, “Engineering polymeric composite materials: a tool to fast track Kenya’s technological development” in February, 2013. Prof. Wambua holds a PhD in Materials Engineering from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. He is a registered Professional Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya. He was the Chairman of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (Western Kenya Branch) from 2011 to 2013 and is a member of Eminent Fellow Engineers Forum and several other professional bodies.
Prof. Wambua has previously worked as Deputy Principal (Academic Affairs), Kirinyaga University College, Dean, School of Engineering, Moi University, senior researcher, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Materials Science and Manufacturing, South Africa and Head, Department of Manufacturing, Industrial and Textile Engineering, Moi University.
In addition to supervising local and international postgraduate students, he is and has been an external examiner for local and international universities. In 2012 and 2013, Prof. Wambua taught composite materials as a visiting Professor at the International Graduate Summer School, Donghua University, China. Prof. J.W. Khamasi, EBS - Registrar (Academic Affairs)
Jennifer W. Khamasi (Ph. D) is an Associate Professor of Family and Consumer Sciences Education and has specialized in curriculum and instruction.
Before joining Dedan Kimathi University of Technology as the Registrar Academic Affairs, Prof. Khamasi served Moi University in various capacities.
She helped set up the Institute for Gender Equity, Research and Development, IGERD (2005-2011) and was the first director. Previously she served as the Associate Dean, School of Education-Chepkoilel Campus (2002-2005) and Head of Family and Consumer Sciences Department (2003-2008).
Registrar - Research Technology Management and Community Linkages (RTMCL)
This division is the leading reference centre for research, innovation, community projects, linkages and partnerships. This division’s mission is to act as a hub in promotion of knowledge development, transfer and dissemination for the advancement of society. It is also the fulcrum of activities for University engagement with researchers, community, innovators, and industry for the provision of relevant training, community education and development.
The division is tasked with Resource mobilization, coordination of research activities by staff and students and their collaborators, Intellectual Property management, coordination of institutional collaborations and linkages, promotion of innovations, development and execution of technology transfer programmes and community outreach.
The division contributes to the internationalization of training programmes by promoting collaborative research with other institutions which exposes our staff and students to research issues on a global platform. In the process the University contributes towards the country’s objectives as outlined in Vision 2030.
Mrs. Beatrice Mwangi - Ag. Finance Officer
She is currently serving as Acting Finance Officer in Dedan Kimathi University of Technology. She joined Ngandu Girls High school for her O - levels and she later went to Moi Girls – Nairobi for her (A - levels) where she did her Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (K.A.C.E). Ms. Mwangi is currently pursuing her PhD in Business Administration (Strategic Management) at JKUAT. Previously she did her Masters in Business Administration degree (Strategic Management) and Bachelor of Commerce Accounting option at JKUAT. In 2012 she became a member of ICPAK with CPA (K).
