DeKUT Leads Kenya’s Debut at the African Pétanque Championships in Mauritania

Team DeKUT embarked on their journey to Nouakchott, Mauritania on 21st November, 2025, for the African Pétanque Championships for Men. The team comprised Brian Mundia, Zebby Arnold Akatch, Meshack Kipsang, an additional player from Mount Kenya University, Coach Margaret Gicheru from DeKUT, and Mr. Maina Kamau, the Head of Delegation and President of Pétanque Kenya. The team marked Kenya’s first-ever participation in this prestigious continental tournament. Pétanque is an inclusive, precision sport of French origin, is still relatively new in Kenya and continues to grow under the leadership of Coach Margaret.
DeKUT is honoured to be among the pioneering institutions advancing the sport locally. Participation in the championship provided the team with invaluable exposure and the opportunity to learn from nations with decades of experience in the game. As a sport accessible to individuals of all abilities, pétanque aligns strongly with DeKUT’s commitment to promoting diverse, inclusive, and globally competitive sporting opportunities. This milestone not only elevates the University’s sporting profile but also strengthens Kenya’s emerging presence on the African pétanque stage.
A proud moment for DeKUT and for Kenya as we continue championing innovative and inclusive sports development.
