JKUAT Tech Expo is an annual event that was inaugurated in the year 2010. It gives students pursuing various degree courses an opportunity to showcase their innovations and present their projects in front of a panel of judges where a winner is selected and given a reward. This year, the event was held on 9th and 10th November and DeKUT was represented by a team of three students: Rona Kiura, Grace Mawia and Margaret Nduta; all 3rd year students pursuing B. Sc Food Science and Technology in the Institute of Food Bioresources Technology.
The three ladies have added value to the bamboo plant by using its sprouts powder to produce yoghurt enriched with numerous health benefits associated with the plant: improved digestion due to the high fiber, boosting the immune system, reduced inflammation, helping in weight loss among others.
The team came in third. Congratulations to the young scholars. DeKUT is proud that the spirit of research is growing among the students and staff.
