 Dr Susan Wanuri Ngure

“My passion for life is the service for the community and appreciation for survival. My inspiration is Cancer Advocacy through my experience as a cancer patient and then a survivor. I have recently published a book called ‘My Tenth Life’ . I encourage and give experiences of my cancer journey and explicitly tell people the issues that one deals with and where they need assistance.” – Susan Wanuri Ngure.

Dr. Ngure is a Lecturer at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) School of Business. She holds a PhD in Business Management from Cowan University, Western Australia, a Master of Human Resource Management from Kenyatta University, a holder of BEd (Home Economics), and a HND in Counselling Psychology. She is also a certified public mediator with Certificate IV in training and assessment. She is currently a Postgraduate coordinator.

Dr. Ngure is a leader and author (2 books, over 15 journal articles, and five conference papers). She has been declared a Cancer global hero of hope. She has served on various boards, including KENCASA, Kagumo High School, Ngamwa Secondary School, Afriquest Consultants Limited, and Vetlab sports club, among many other community leadership roles. She has also been a golf Captain of Vetlab Sports Club. She has supervised 3 PhD students to completion and 9 MBA students. She has also attended seven international conferences and has been a moderator in 2.

In the book "My Tenth Life", she narrates how cancer ushered her into what she calls "My Tenth Life" she uses a cat’s life as an imagery in her book by illustrating how she has lived through nine other lives like a cat. In the book, she tells us about her life experiences and why she cherishes her Tenth Life, hoping it will encourage someone facing seemingly insurmountable odds. She also tells us about life's lessons through her own experiences and the chances and opportunities that can contribute to one's life. She also encourages and gives experiences of her cancer journey and explicitly tells people the issues one deals with and where they may need assistance.

She decided to bear it all, to be vulnerable because vulnerability is not a weakness but a strength.

Her advice is to be genuine, know oneself and always have an ambition. She also urges the youth to enjoy their youth with responsibility. To understand our bodies so that we can address issues early enough if anything is wrong. Sieve the information you receive to remain with what adds value to your life.

And above all, strive to make a positive mark in this world.
