MEET OTTE ZEBEDEE ISAAC EKWENYE – A POLICE OFFICER, ANTI – CRIME OFFICE, MUMIAS POLICE STATION.

Among the programmes offered at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) is Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Security Management and Master’s degree in Security and Forensics Management. These programmes are offered in our Nairobi Campus; the 2nd, 9th and 13th floors of Pension Towers, Loita Street. Otte Zebedee is a graduate in both of these programmes from our University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2016 and later, a master’s degree in 2019.
Otte Zebedee who started at Nairobi GSU training school as an instructor on security management lessons is now a police officer based at Mumias Police Station under Mumias West sub - county police command; attached to the Anti-crime office where their core function is to fight against crime by detection, deterrence and enforcement of law and order among other ways. “The knowledge and skills I got at DeKUT are really helping me a lot in managing security matters at Mumias. Thanks a lot DeKUT”- he added passionately during his interview.
What inspired Otte Zebedee to pursue a career in Security Management and keep building knowledge and capacity in it is the change of security oriented activities around the globe. He says that he saw the need to equip himself with the best knowledge in preparedness for the challenges ahead in this field. His desire is to be a renowned security consultant with deep knowledge on Security Management. He therefore looks to keep building the required knowledge on security matters.
As a parting shot, Otte Zebedee says that DeKUT gave him real challenges to solve through the mode of training at the University hence preparing him to face challenges in his career and life and conquer. He further encourages people to pursue education at whatever age saying that there is no set age for one to achieve the intended goals in education.
To reiterate Nelson Mandela’s words on education; “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. The power of education extends beyond the development of skills we need for economic success. It can contribute to nation-building and reconciliation.” At DeKUT, we continue to provide quality and holistic education towards producing relevant human resources and leaders in various fields who are not only contributing greatly to the growth and development of our nation and continent but to creation of safe spaces; a safer world.
