Commemorating our hero in the Dedan Kimathi Week
Every year in the week that falls February 18th (the date that the hero was executed), we celebrate Dedan Kimathi Wachiuri, after whom our institution is named. We call it Kimathi Week to commemorate his courage and bravery that saw Kenya achieve its independence. Dedan Kimathi’s vision, ideas, actions, and outcomes are attributes this University strongly identifies with to pursue its mission to improve society. This year’s Kimathi Week took place from February 14th to 20th, 2022. The University organized various activities involving students and staff members within and outside the University to commemorate our hero. As part of the Corporate Social Responsibility activities, we visited the Huduma Children’s Home, Nyeri Children’s Remand Home among others. We winded up the week with a hike to the Nyana Hills from the Climb to Educate Team, led by Mr. Mwai and a number of students and staff members. The Team was educated on land utilization, conservation, human-wildlife conflict, environmental ethics, and the relevance of the Mt. Kenya forest to the Mau Mau during their struggle for independence. The team also visited Mahiga Children’s Home as part of giving back to the society.
