DeKUT Recognized for Gender Equity at the USAWA Awards

Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) continues to affirm its commitment to inclusive leadership and gender equality. The institution was recently honoured at the prestigious USAWA Awards, organized by the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC), for its outstanding efforts in achieving the Two-Thirds Gender Rule.
Representing the University at the event were Dr. James Kariuki, Chairman of the University Council, and Prof. Eng. Peter N. Muchiri, EBS, the Vice Chancellor. The USAWA Awards ceremony was officiated by Hon. Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture and Children Services.
The award highlights DeKUT’s deliberate and strategic approach to promoting gender parity in governance and institutional representation. By complying with the constitutional requirement that no more than two-thirds of any gender shall occupy elective or appointive positions, the University sets an exemplary standard within the higher education sector.
This recognition not only affirms DeKUT’s leadership in fostering inclusive governance but also reinforces its broader commitment to equity, diversity, and sustainable development. The University continues to prioritize the empowerment of both women and men in decision-making roles as part of its transformative vision for education and national progress.
