DeKUT Selected to Lead Kenya’s Centre of Excellence for Applied and Responsible Artificial Intelligence (ARAISE)

A Major Win for DeKUT!
DeKUT, the Premier University of Technology, has achieved a significant milestone after being selected as the lead institution for Kenya’s new Centre of Excellence for Applied and Responsible Artificial Intelligence (ARAISE) under the DAAD Centres of African Excellence programme.
Following a competitive selection process, DeKUT joins Ghana’s Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) as one of the two African universities selected to host the newly established Centres of Excellence, announced by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
The ARAISE Centre brings together an international consortium led by the University of Tübingen, Germany, alongside Kenyan partner institutions: DeKUT, the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), and Maseno University of Science and Technology.
The initiative will create new opportunities to strengthen postgraduate training, advance AI research, and develop practical, responsible AI-driven solutions to address societal and environmental challenges. It further reinforces DeKUT’s growing role in technological advancement, international research collaboration, and the development of solutions that respond to Africa’s evolving needs.
The Centre is supported through the DAAD Centres of African Excellence programme, with funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Federal Foreign Office (AA), and the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR).
