DeKUT Hosts U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Ms. Susan Burns, Affirms Kenya’s Growing Role in the Global Semiconductor Industry

DeKUT had the honor of hosting the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Kenya, Susan Burns, for a visit focused on innovation, research, and industry collaboration.
During her visit, Ms. Burns toured the University’s state-of-the-art facilities and engaged with faculty, researchers, and students on a range of groundbreaking innovations and projects championed across various Departments, Schools, and Centres. The visit underscored DeKUT’s growing reputation as a hub of technological advancement and applied research in Kenya and beyond.
A key highlight of the visit was a tour of Semiconductor Technologies Limited, the anchor client of the Dedan Kimathi Science and Technology Park. The collaboration between the University and Semiconductor Technologies Limited represents a bold step toward strengthening Africa’s participation in the global semiconductor value chain. Ms. Burns expressed her admiration for the strategic partnership and the University’s forward-thinking approach to research, innovation, and commercialization. Notably, she affirmed her confidence in the country’s potential, remarking that “the future of semiconductors should be in Kenya".
The visit reinforces the University’s commitment to driving transformative innovation, building strategic alliances, and contributing meaningfully to the Nation’s and Africa’s technological and economic development.
